Module 9

Zones

The third module of the ICT method looks for where to enter: at what price within the leg, in which zone the move left behind — the FVG, the order block, the zone that switches sides — and at what level of the pullback.

Step 44

Premium, discount and equilibrium

Modules 7 and 8 said which way and towards which target. Module 9 looks for where to enter: in a zone, and at a good price. The first filter is the simplest: where is price within its leg?

The dealing range

Take the last clear leg: from a swing low to the high that followed, or from a swing high to the low. That is the dealing range. Its exact middle, at 50%, is the equilibrium.

  • Above the equilibrium, price is in premium: expensive.
  • Below it, price is in discount: cheap.

Buy cheap, sell expensive

In an uptrend, you look to buy in discount, below the equilibrium; in a downtrend, to sell in premium, above it. Buying in premium means paying the top of the leg, with a stop far away.

A filter, not a signal

Premium and discount do not tell you to enter: they tell you where to look for a zone, and the next steps give those zones.

On the chart, the pullback of a bearish leg climbs back into premium, then price heads down again. On another day, the pullback goes through the equilibrium and the leg does not resume.

The 6E (euro FX future), 5-minute candles, 16 July 2026. The bearish leg starts from the 8:30 swing high (1.1496) and ends at the 9:00 low (1.1471): the equilibrium is at 1.14835. The pullback climbs to 1.1486 at 9:30, in premium, at 60% of the leg. Price then heads down again, goes below 1.1471 at 10:35 and touches 1.14635 at 11:00.

Key pointThe dealing range runs from a swing to the end of the leg; its middle, at 50%, is the equilibrium. In an uptrend, look to buy in discount; in a downtrend, to sell in premium.
